Hercules Brabazon Brabazon was famous for his impressionist style watercolours of landscapes and seascapes. Born in Paris to English parents, he was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he read Mathematics.
He studied in Rome for three years and traveled with Ruskin and Arthur Severn. They toured Spain, Egypt, and India etc. He was an original member of the New English ~Art Club, introduced to challenge the dominance of the Royal Academy. In 1892, Sargent persuaded Brabazon to exhibit some of his drawings at the Groupil Gallery, as up to then he had practiced as an amateur. Since then his rapid and powerful sketches have been popular with collectors.
The Tate Gallery has a collection of his works and he is also represented in various provincial art galleries.
